The legal representative of former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly on Sunday paid LE1 million that Adly took in the form of gifts from the state-run Al-Ahram newspaper when he was in office.
The Public Funds Prosecution had a few days ago agreed that former President Hosni Mubarak also return LE20 million that he received in gifts from the newspaper, to be deducted from the frozen funds of his son Alaa.
Prosecutor Mostafa al-Husseiny said all those who took gifts from Al-Ahram have agreed to pay them back.
Meanwhile, Prosecutor General Talaat Abdallah ordered the lifting of the travel ban on 10 out of 26 defendants in the case, including Ahmed Fathi Sorour, former parliamentary speaker, Hatem al-Gabaly, former health minister, Moufid Shehab, former minister of parliamentary affairs, and Sami Mahran, former parliamentary secretary general.
The state is collecting millions of pounds from Mubarak-era officials who have struck restitution deals to avoid prosecution.
